Our tour of the incredible Archaeological Site of Pompeii and Mount Vesuvius begins in Naples with pickup from the main hotels in the city center and designated meeting points.
After a 30-minute drive, we will arrive at Pompeii, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Our archaeological guide will welcome us and assist with purchasing tickets for the site. Then, they will share the most fascinating stories about Pompeii and what life was like before the eruption of Mount Vesuvius, which buried the city.
The guide will also show us the most important sites, such as the thermal baths, the frescoes of the Lupanar brothel, the Macellum with its "tabernas," the famous workshops located along the commercial streets, the Basilica, and the House of the Faun. After exploring Pompeii, we will continue our journey to the famous Mount Vesuvius.
Mount Vesuvius has been, and will continue to be, the natural landmark of the Bay of Naples for centuries. Tragically known as the destroyer of the cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum, the volcano is undoubtedly a must-visit destination during our stay in Naples. This tour offers an unforgettable experience, allowing us to admire the Bay of Naples from the summit.
After our lunch break, the tour will continue to an altitude of 1,000 meters, where the guide will assist us in purchasing tickets to visit the crater. From the ticket office, we will walk up to the actual summit of the volcano to see the crater and listen to the insights provided by the professional guide from the National Park.
We will also be able to admire the summit of Mount Somma (1,133 meters) and, to the right, the cone of Vesuvius (1,281 meters), both separated by a valley known as the Valley of the Giant. After two hours of free time to reach the summit and take photos, we will return to the parking area, where the driver will pick us up and take us back to Naples.
Tip Greca: Remember to wear appropriate footwear and clothing to comfortably enjoy the climb to the crater of the volcano.
