At the appointed time, we will meet our guide to discover the secrets of the Accademia Gallery, as well as to enjoy a complete overview of one of the most famous sculptors in the world: Michelangelo, through his greatest works of art such as the original statue of David, the Prisoners or the St. Matthew. The Museum was built in 1784 and was conceived as a sanctuary dedicated to preserving the symbol of Florence.
This guided tour will be a discovery for anyone interested in Michelangelo: our professional guide will give us some interesting facts about the tormented life of the Tuscan artist, who was not only a sculptor, but also a renowned painter, architect and great poet.
However, his genius coincided with his great restlessness: his whole life was marked by the continuous struggle between form and content, between his religious devotion and his personal, hidden desires. This inner conflict is perfectly exemplified by the use of an artistic technique, which in Italian is called non finito, where an apparently incomplete sculpture seems to literally emerge from the block of marble as if it had always been there. A real struggle between form and content made real.
At the end of the guided tour, we will have the possibility to stay in the museum for as long as we wish.
Greca Tip: During the last twenty years of his life, Michelangelo devoted himself above all to architectural works: he directed the work on the Laurenziana Library in Florence and, in Rome, the remodelling of Capitoline Square, the Sforza Chapel in Santa Maria Maggiore, the completion of Palazzo Farnese and, above all, the completion of St. Peter's Basilica in the Vatican.
