At the appointed time we will meet our guide to enjoy our visit to the Duomo of Florence, the marvellous cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, a timeless masterpiece that over the years has become the symbol of the city.
We will skip the entrance queue to see this architectural marvel of white and green marble crowned by the imposing dome designed by Brunelleschi. We will marvel at the majesty of the cathedral's interior, bathed in light from the marvellous stained glass windows and the evocative rose window on the façade.
Our local guide will take us on a journey through time to discover the history of the Duomo's birth, starting from its origins as a small church in the 7th century, to become the third largest cathedral in the world after St. Peter's Basilica in Rome and St. Paul's Cathedral in London.
We will also learn about the innovative techniques Filippo Brunelleschi devised to build the dome. Inside the dome we will admire the impressive fresco by Visari and Zuccari depicting the Last Judgement, the largest surface ever decorated with this painting technique.
Once we finish our guided tour we can continue visiting the cathedral on our own as well as visiting the Museo della Misericordia near the Duomo.
Tip Greca: Si lo desean, pueden adquierir por su cuento el billete para ascender a lo alto de la cúpula del Duomo y disfrutar de sus vistas panorámicas.
